Kenneth Yasuda Pepper-Pod

This collection of Japanese haiku profiles noted poet Kenneth Yasuda and is a welcome addition to the world of haiku. In the compact, evocative verse-form known as haiku Japanese writers have for centuries been condensing their finest poetic thought and feeling. Adequate translation of haiku into English awaited a Japanese writer fully acquainted with the English language. That writer has now appeared in Kenneth Yasuda, and this book is the result of a long-time labor of love on the finest poetry of his homeland.Readers will have some notion of the delight to be expected from the pages of this book, not the least interesting art of which is the final brief section of haiku written directly in English by Mr. Yasuda himself. He also supplies a scholarly clear, fascinating introductory essay on nature and development of haiku form.

Группа авторов 95 Theses for a New Reformation

Five hundred years ago Martin Luther wrote his Ninety-Five Theses, inaugurating the Protestant Reformation, and with it exemplified an unflinching devotion to return to the Word of God as the ultimate authority. Today, the church is also in desperate need for reformation–a new reformation to correct her shortcomings and meet the challenges of the day. Some might see everything as fine, some might see everything as hopeless, and others might simply dismiss the church as irrelevant, too impotent to reform herself, much less to strengthen the disintegrating family or address the downward-spiraling culture with a prophetic voice.
95 Theses for a New Reformation confronts the necessity for reformation today head-on. Over thirty of today's pastors, theologians, and church leaders analyze ninety-five current problems, search the Scriptures for solutions, and make sound biblical appropriations to implement into the life of the church, family, and culture. On this 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation, let us pray that the Lord will again revive his church for his own glory and for the purification of Christ's beloved bride, the church. And let us prepare ourselves to respond with urgency to God's call to action by reforming the church, family, and culture.
Contributors include: John Frame, John MacArthur, R. C. Sproul, Peter J. Leithart, and James White

In 2017 Christians around the world will mark the five hundredth anniversary of the Reformation. In the midst of many appeals for reformation today, a growing number of theologians, scholars, and activists around the world believe Reformation celebrations in 2017 and beyond need to focus now on the urgent need for an Eco-Reformation. The rise of industrial, fossil fuel-driven capitalism and the explosive growth in human population endanger the fundamental planetary life-support systems on which life as we know it has evolved. The collective impact of human production, consumption, and reproduction is undermining the ecological systems that support human life on Earth. If human beings do not reform their relationship with God's creation, unspeakable suffering will befall many–especially the weakest and most vulnerable among all species. The conviction at the heart of this collection of essays is that a gospel call for ecological justice belongs at the heart of the five hundredth anniversary observance of the Reformation in 2017 and as a–if not the–central dimension of Christian conversion, faith, and practice into the foreseeable future. Like Luther's Ninety-Five Theses, this volume brings together critical biblical, pastoral, theological, historical, and ethical perspectives that constructively advance the vision of a socially and ecologically flourishing Earth.

The two manuscripts, "A New Kind of Muslim" and "Brief Thoughts about a New Islam", have been combined into one volume. The essays are very readable; they make it easy to understand the epigrams in "Brief Thoughts". Maybe the world will notice this work, and maybe not. If the Muslim clerical establishment notices this book there may be a fatwah and there may be violence. Muslims do not take kindly to heresy, nor to anyone who suggests that he might be a modern-day prophet, or perhaps Al-Mahdi.

Karl Barth The Knowledge of God and the Service of God According to the Teaching of the Reformation

These lectures on that teaching [of the Reformed church on natural theology] will not take the form of an independent outline, but will be connected with a 'document' of the Reformation. Further, taking into account the specifically Scottish character of the Gifford foundation, this document will be a document of the 'Scottish' Reformation. . . . I am letting John Knox and his friend speak in their 'Confessio Scotica' of 1560. This is not to take the form of an historical analysis of the Scottish Confession, but that of a theological paraphrase and elucidation of the document as it speaks to-day and as we to-day by a careful objective examination of its content can hear it speak.

The papers in this volume are less a commemoration of the Reformation than a discussion of its meaning in the era after 2017. What is celebrated in 2017 is not the Reformation as such, but the beginning of the Reformation. It was the dynamics of the «new» theology of Luther and Calvin that caused a radical change with global effects. Reformation is not just an historical event but an ongoing movement of renewal and change. The message of the Reformation constantly challenges us to think through positions, actions, attitudes, and programs. This book presents contributions from eleven experts from all over Europe, who deal with their various topics on the conviction that the essence of Luther's theology does not need to be adapted to make it relevant. The papers originated at the 2016 conference of the Fellowship of European Evangelical Theologians, which was held in Lutherstadt Wittenberg.

Группа авторов Reformation Observances: 1517–2017

The year 2017 marks the five-hundredth anniversary of the Reformation, if that event is dated from the posting of Martin Luther's Ninety-Five Theses. Admittedly, 2017 is an arbitrary and somewhat artificial milestone. Nevertheless, anniversaries can be special occasions that allow for an appreciation and evaluation of memorable persons and events. As a number of Reformation anniversaries approach, the historical significance of the Reformation merits increased attention. Employing a variety of historiographical methods from intellectual history to postcolonial theory, this volume demonstrates how four major traditions observed the Reformation: Lutheran, Anglican, Reformed, and Roman Catholic. The foreword and preface place the essays into the contemporary and broader historical contexts in the history of reform. Commemorations of the Reformation varied in different periods, often influenced by immediate historical contexts. How are those sixteenth-century events, which caused both renewal and conflict in church and society as well as divisions between those expressions, to be viewed in the twenty-first century in a setting broader than Europe?
